On October 13, U.S. and Israeli officials convened in Washington for the 30th anniversary session of the U.S. - Israel Joint Economic Development Group (JEDG), the annual senior-level economic policy dialogue between the two countries. Participants recognized the remarkable progress in the bilateral economic relationship over the past three decades and pledged to continue expanding and deepening policy coordination and cooperation across a broad range of sectors.

Second Round of 500 Jordanian Employees

Approved To Work In Eilat

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri: "The 400 workers who come into Eilat daily from Jordan to work in the hotel industry have proved the success of this project to date and their contribution to the industry. The arrival of another 500, as part of the second round, will provide significant help to the hotels, especially in advance of the holiday and summer season. This arrangement is an important contribution to the Israeli economy and to bilateral relations."

Hebrew translation causes Egyptian furor

World famous Cairene author Alaa Al Aswany's book 'The Yacoubian Building' has been translated into Hebrew; the author alleges that it was without his permission, but Egyptian media is condemning him strongly, regardless.

The writer and intellectual Alaa Al Aswany has been under media attack in his native Egypt because of the publication of a Hebrew translation of a novel of his in Israel last week. The writer, who opposes any kind of normalization, has long refused to have his work translated into Hebrew, and he condemned the translation as unauthorized.
